It’s almost summer here in the South Carolina Upcountry, but that doesn’t mean Clemson University goes into hibernation mode—not by a long shot! Among its seasonal goings-on is a fabulous tradition introducing keen youngsters to campus life and studies: the Summer Scholars program, a unique opportunity to (in Clemson’s own words) “try on” the university.

Summer Scholars at Clemson University: “Trying On” Tigerdom

Seventh- to 12th-graders enrolling in the Summer Scholars program get to spend a week calling a Clemson residence hall home, taking their meals in the dining hall, and filling their days and evenings with both high-caliber learning and the all-out fun of campus socializing, exploration, and recreation.

The program is divvied up by field of study, with “hands-on, immersive courses” in participants’ chosen discipline—everything from Bioengineering and Virtual Reality Design & Research to Vet Camp—led by Clemson University instructors.

Then there are the campus tours, one-on-one interfacing with university representatives, ice-cream socials, planetarium shows, Bowman Field games, Q&As and counseling with current Tigers, and all the other good stuff that goes into the Summer Scholars experience.

It all adds up to a singular opportunity to get a taste of Clemson University: everything from its academic rigor to basic campus layout and student life.

Enrollment for this year’s Summer Scholars program kicked off back in January, and as of this writing, some of the field-of-study sessions are full (with waitlists available) or nearly so. You can take a look at the full list right here, but these are the weekly timetables:

• Session 3: 6/18-6/23
• Session 4: 6/25-6/30
• Session 5: 7/9-7/14
• Session 6: 7/16-7/21
