Established in 1889 as Clemson Agricultural College, initially a military school, the institution became Clemson University in 1964, a year after its desegregation. The school’s first African-American enrollee, Harvey Gantt, later became Mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Still wearing its military heritage proudly, Clemson now boasts more than 21,000 undergraduates, encompasses seven colleges, and offers better than 80 majors and 90 minors as well as 130-plus graduate degree programs. The lovely campus edges Lake Hartwell and the 17,500-acre Clemson Experimental Forest, a sylvan classroom and outstanding recreational destination for hiking and mountain biking.

Clemson’s Fall 2022 academic year is just about to kick off, as is Clemson Tigers football, which takes place at Memorial Stadium. The first home game of the year, against the Furman Paladins, takes place Saturday, September 10th—preceded the day before, as usual, by the festivities and pageantry of the First Friday Parade, which ushers in the football season.
