Fall Activities in Clemson, SC

Even as we relish late summer in the South Carolina Upstate, fall is knocking at the door. An autumn escape to The Inn at Patrick Square in charming Clemson is just what the doctor ordered! This is a gorgeous season here at the doorstep of the Blue Ridge, and an action-packed one, too, not least given the incoming harvest bounty and nearby Clemson University in full swing.

Here are just a few of the activities, sights, and goings-on you can enjoy during a fall stay in one of our boutique guest rooms or suites!

Hiking

Our big backyard includes some of the most beautiful countryside in South Carolina, where the Piedmont meets the looming grandeur of the Blue Ridge Mountains. That makes for bountiful hiking opportunities, and the sunshiny fall weather is absolutely ideal for the activity. The many waterfalls for which our area is famous make fine destinations, from close-by stunners such as Waldrop Stone Falls to the remote plunges near Lake Jocassee in Devils Fork State Park.

Speaking of state parks, Devils Fork is only one of a number of fine ones within easy day-tripping reach of The Inn at Patrick Square: Marvel at the namesake Blue Ridge Escarpment promontory at Caesars Head State Park or tackle the trails—and goggle at the rugged landscape—at Table Rock State Park. The latter park includes part of the 80-mile-long Foothills Trail, which also takes in the loftiest point in South Carolina: 3,553-foot Sassafras Mountain along the Eastern Continental Divide, another rewarding adventure out of Clemson.

Rafting & Ziplining

A hop, skip, and a jump from Clemson, you can crank up the thrills with Wildwater Chattooga, rafting the Chattooga National Wild & Scenic River and getting aerial via the sky bridges and ziplines of the Canopy Tour.

Leaf-Peeping

Hiking, rafting, or just taking a scenic drive, you can enjoy some topnotch fall colors in the Clemson vicinity. Our Piedmont and Blue Ridge surrounds provide their own rich leaf-peeping from October into early November, with the aforementioned Table Rock, Devils Fork, and Caesars Head state parks among the prime spots, and plenty of colorful canopies on display among Clemson’s street (and campus!) trees.

Clemson Farmers’ Market

Farm-fresh produce and specialty food products dazzle alongside locally made arts and crafts at the Clemson Farmers’ Market, which goes down just steps away from The Inn at Patrick Square on the Village Green. The market is underway on Thursday afternoons from 4 to 7 PM through September, and then on the first Thursdays of the month October through December.

Tigers Football

Boutique lodgings at The Inn at Patrick Square, of course, also puts you within shouting distance of Clemson University, where Tigers football helps define the town’s autumn character. Upcoming home games at Memorial Stadium see the Tigers hosting the Furman Paladins on September 10th, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on September 17th, the NC State Wolfpack on October 1st, and the Syracuse Orange on October 22nd. Get tickets here (and don’t forget about our Football Weekend Experience package here at The Inn).

Greenville Day-tripping

Another fine choice for a spectacular fall day is a daytrip to Greenville, the hub of the Upcountry. Check out this delightful city’s shops and restaurants, take in a performance at the Peace Center, or wile away some pleasant hours at the Greenville Zoo, the Greenville Co. Museum of Art, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, or other well-known institutions.
